From a warm whisper to a deep roar - Elevate your snare drum to its full potential The snare drum is the most important component in the drum set, and the snare-wire is a crucial component of your drum’s sound. This fact has not been widely recognized until very recently; only a few drummers understand this important connection. In 1960, Ludwig and Slingerland manufactured what has now become the standard for good vintage wires. Several manufacturers have tried to re-produce the sound. After years of research, we have replicated the Slingerland wire taking several factors into account such as material, spiral diameter and pitch. We finally decided on a core thickness of 0.5 mm, a spiral diameter of 1.35mm and a pitch of 3.4 mm. In that process, we also found that the end plate is another determinant of a snare-wire’s sensitivity, and we have tried various sizes for these as well. We concluded that 0.5mm is optimal to hold the wires. We also decided to exclude the guiding grooves for snare strings and tapes that most manufacturers use. These guiding grooves impaired the sensitivity of the snare drum. Our end plate is quite thin however; it may have caused breakage of strings and tapes. We resolved the problem by having the lapel at the holes on the end plate. After years of careful analysis of the material composition, thickness of the end plate, shaping experiments and production consideration, we have the CANOPUS Vintage Snare Wire.Super Jazz drummer Bill Stewart once visited us. He was so impressed by our proto-type Vintage Snare Wires he asked us if he could use it. Many CANOPUS endorsers appreciate the sound quality of this snare wire. 42 Strand Rich Impact *discontinuous* These new Canopus 42 strand snare wires give a unique rich and full sound, and provide great impact.Having 42 strands may initially give an impression of being “too much”, but the VSW-42 wires feature ultra thin end plates – allowing players to enjoy maximum tone and response at all volume levels, whilst also providing great sensitivity and control over the sound. Players can enjoy a comfortably muted, tight sound and very quick response. * 0.5mm thick Brass End Plate* Vintage Wire 42 Strand* Dry (DR) Only

Snare wires which enhance even the subtitles of nuances in the midst of very loud backbeats! By adopting spiral wires with an abundance of coils coupled with 1mm end-plates, we have achieved a good balance between volume that is aggressive enough for a powerful backbeat and swift response for delicate phrasing. With this one snare wire, you can hav a an aggressive, loud snare sound and maintain sensitivity. CPSS-BB14DR(Dry=Without plating) These snare wires create a loud attack and sharp response even for ghost notes. Very effective for wood-shell snare drums. CPSS-BB14NP(Nickel plated) These snare wires have both a loud attack and bright sound. They have an enormous effect on metal-shell snare drums. They will improve the potential of a loud snare tremendously. CPSS-BB14SNPW (Nickel Plated) Canopus Back Beat snare wires have been developed to emphasize the back-beat – especially in high volume situations where the snare sound may feel like it is being buried by other instruments.Maintaining these qualities of the standard Canopus Back Beat wires, we have developed the extra wide 42 strand snare wire – which allows the drummer to play comfortably, without straining, while delivering a full, pleasing snare back-beat at all volume levels. We have eliminated 2 common problems of other wide snares: 1) Canopus 42 strand snare wires do not mute the resonance and response of the drum. 2) We have controlled the indistinct sound created by excess snare buzz. Furthermore, the 42 strand snare uses high quality nickel plated wires which highlight every nuance of sound and vibration and yet have a controlled response and sustain. Enjoy the open, powerful and responsive sound.

Nylon Snare Wire Belt (CNB) We have selected flexible nylon fiber for its excellent durability in a woven belt. With this innovative snare belt, we got a natural response of a snare wire similar to the snare wire cord, and what is more, the choked sound caused by conventional film belt is not noticed at all. Snare Wire Cord (CNC) This is an ideal cord for a sustaining, “natural bound” and “stabilizing” snare wire. The only drawback used to be a sudden break of the string while in use.Canopus has conducted research into core fiber material, thread volume and weaving technique to come up with a very durable snare cord with natural bound (compared with our products in the past). The fitting of these snare wires have vastly improved whether loosely or tightly adjusted. This is a most suitable item for situations where delicacy is required (in a recording for instance).

NV60-M2 Snare Drum For our NV60-M2, we analyzed the drum sound that stormed the rock world in the 1960’s. The shell construction is made of 3 ply mahogany and poplar with a maple reinforcement.Thin 1.6mm pressed hoops that are customized for the NV60-M2 shells further refine the vintage sound. The attack sounds from the surface of the head father than the point to create an immediate response with sticks and beaters. Crisp and clear sounds recreate the nostalgic sensation of a vintage rock kit and cleanly articulate every audible stroke. *We recommend as the standard specification for the NV60-M2 without bolt-tight washers since we put more emphasis on the reproduction of the vintage sound of 1960s.

The sound of Yellow Birch, which will be familiar from the 70's and 80's, is distinctive for its naturally compressed sound and its ease of playability. It is a very well balanced snare drum. It may appear to give less overall volume due to its light weight - but this drum has a full range of tone and dynamic potential - it is very easy to play with a great feel and superior response. JET-BLACK ALUMINUM ALLOY Based on the extensive research and data accumulated in the first six years of the ROF project we are now able to further expand our sound palette. This is the culmination of the ROF project: Jet-Black Aluminum Alloy – with heightened responsiveness and superior impact as its primary characteristics. The longer flanged bearing edge and matte black coat finish reduces overtones. The resultant sound has an emphasized mid-range and attack, with a shortened sustain. YAIBA II Birch Snare Drum Although the Yaiba II drum set was originally sold with a snare drum, Canopus started producing the Yaiba snare drums individually because of high demand from drummers.Canopus adopted the use of forced-hardening lacquer instead of nitrocellulose lacquer for a solid and powerful sound, and has managed to create a sound which contrasts and complements the other Canopus high end series. The YAIBA models have inherited the great Canopus sound and have also specialized and refined the concept of the original YAIBA – but they sit in a much more affordable price range. This is a “dream come true” for those drummers who have always wanted to easily have the Canopus sound.
